With the threat of rain looming last night at Hoddesdon, we won the toss and bowled first, as we looked to bounce back was a disappointing 1 run loss to Preston last week.
I’m pleased to say we did just that as we were fantastic from start to finish. Sam Robinson (1-4) and Freddie Chapman (1-8) set the tone with Hoddy scoring just 8 runs off the first 4 overs! And just as they started to up the run rate, Freddie proved seam bowlers can field as he expertly threw the stumps down to get our first wicket. Liam Mays and Archie Racey continued to apply the pressure bowling economically through the middle overs before Charlie Castle came back to take 2 quick wickets just as they started to get going again. In the end Hoddy finished with 82-6 in their 20 overs.
In response, Murray Davidson did what Murray Davidson does in T20 cricket this year as he took apart the Hoddesdon attack. He retired for another quality 53* off just 31 balls, just before his opening partner Ben Cowper (15) was bowled trying to win the game with one big shot. Will CS (2*) and Olly Hartnell (2*) came in and finished the game off as we chased their total in just 7.4 overs!
It was an excellent game both in terms of performance and attitude, we now look forward to hosting Sawbridgeworth in the final group game next Friday! A win in that game gives us a chance of making the semi finals!
