Cricket is a team game and this was highlighted in Wednesday's match for BSCC U15 girls team against Cokenach. The energy on the field during the match and the smiles on their faces at the end showed how well the team has gelled.
Catherine opened the bowling and took and early wicket caught by Megan, but the 4 free balls rule was still in place so the opposition could bat on. Blistering bowling by Saskia, Catherine and a maiden from Poppy helped by tight fielding in Deep cover by Barnesy (Emily) kept their score down. Matty helped with her 2 wickets (the 2nd in the 4 free balls rule) and Grace also with 2 wickets (again the 2nd in the 4 free ball rule). The opposition finished on 118-2 off 20 overs.
Poppy and Barnesy opened the batting and looked set to partner well with Poppy scoring a quick 12 off 5 balls but an LBW decision put an early end to her innings. After this there were fantastic micro partnerships with each player putting in what was required; from Catherine’s 20 runs, Alice’s defiant defence against Cokenach’s fastest bowler and Grace facing the last 2 balls to score the winning run. Each team member chipped in to reach the required goal of 119.
Well done ladies!!
