Our 2nd game of the day started with us winning the toss and electing to field. Steady bowling again from Marie taking a wicket with her 3rd ball. By the halfway point Harpenden were 46 for 3 with Catherine taking a wicket and Zoe a run out with a direct hit.
The second half of the innings saw Harpenden batting well but Stortford giving away too many extras, predominantly wide balls. However we did take a further 5 wickets: 2 for Emily including a caught and bowled and a catch from Catherine, 1 for Lea and a couple more run outs. Harpenden set us a target of 121 (122 to win) - Game On!
A cautious start from our batters but picking up the scoring rate gave us a fighting chance at the half way point at 63 runs. Catherine retiring not out for 25 off 23 balls. Emily Storm was the only other batter to get into double figures scoring 13 before being run out. We weren't the only ones to give away extras, Harpenden were bowling their share of wides too.
Catherine was back at the crease for the final 2 overs after we had lost 7 of our batters and with one over to go we needed 14 to win. The last over had it all with a single, a with, a 2, a dot, a no-ball 3 meant Lea needed to hit a six off her last ball to win. Unfortunately too tall an order but finished with a respectable 3 runs - leaving us 3 shy of the win.
A close and exciting game - but we lost this game on extras given away - having scored more off the bat than Harpenden. Some lessons to take into the next game.
Player of the match Catherine for her 27 not out (including 3 boundaries).
