It was the U15s first outing of the season. We won the toss and decided to bowl first in dry and bright conditions at Cricketfield Lane. Marie opened the bowling with a wicket on her 4th ball, but with the 6 ball rule, it meant the Cokenach player stayed at the crease. The opposition scored steadily with their opener being dismissed LBW by Poppy on the 6th over and their top scorer Sophia retiring with 25 n/o.
Wickets continued to fall with 3 from Suzie, 2 from Emma and 1 from Saksia, including catches from Alice, Catherine and a trademark diving catch from Poppy. 2 run-outs took the wicket tally to 10, but Cokenach scored well leaving a run chase of 141 for the win.
The girls were up for the challenge and opening batters Saskia and Poppy started the scoring well, with 11 from the first over, Saskia facing every ball. Both Suzie and Poppy retired n/o with 27 and 26 respectively. At the halfway point we were 71/1 so looking positive for the win, but fading light made it tricky for Zoe (12) and Catherine (7) to add the required runs for the win and finished on 113-3 in almost darkness!
The difference between the teams was the bowling accuracy - despite having a 10 wicket haul, there were too many wides: something to work on for the next game, but very positive signs for the season ahead.
It was a first BSCC game for Emily, Alice was WK and Lea stepped in as sub for part of the game (thank you!)
