Our bad run of success in the cup competition continued for the 2023 season as we suffered a 19 run defeat to Cokenach on a sunny Tuesday evening. Cokenach won the toss and elected to bat on a very tricky wicket.
Stortford bowlers put on a good performance with maidens from Catherine, Emily and double maiden from Poppy taking 6 of the 7 wickets between them one more wicket to Abbey leaving Cokenach on a score of 91 all out after 18.3 overs. A very achievable target to chase in the 20 overs.
Batting started well with a double boundary in the 1st over from Poppy but with an excellent bowling performance by Cokenach, we saw our openers out too soon, in came Catherine and Rhiannon who added useful runs but bowlers were too good and picked off our lower order batters convincingly leaving us 20 runs short of victory and progression through to the next round.
We have the chance of revenge very shortly as our next game is against them in the league - hoping to report a better result!
