Our girls took on a highly awaited cup game against Thriplow. After some dispute with the previous round between the opposition we finally got the game on just before the cut-off.
Thriplow won the toss and put us in to bat. We started cautiously and lost our first wicket (Poppy) after just 14 balls. But then Saskia and Lexi went on to form a partnership of 64 with Lexi being bowled by Biz just as she reached her 50! Saskia stayed in to partner Suzie before being bowled for an impressive 43 runs. Suzie, Eva and Catherine completed the batting line up with 14, 25 and 9 respectively, setting a target to chase of 163 - it was touch and go as we knew they had a strong opening pair of batters and Thriplow are previous winners of the competition.
Then in came Lulu Hardig - a Sunriser and Cambs player who really put on a masterclass in batting - scoring 77 runs off her 37 balls, which could have been much more if it weren't for some brave fielding efforts from Poppy and Saskia to stop even more boundaries. Lulu was finally caught by Saskia off Suzie's bowling. This wasn't until the 12th over though and the score was already 125! A lot of work to do!!
Bowling was not on par from most of our bowlers, with expensive overs (albeit against Lulu!) Eva being our best bowler with 7/1 off 2 overs, with Suzie 15/1 off 2 overs. We gifted them far too many free runs with byes and that combined with their impressive attack meant they reach the target with nearly 4 overs to spare.
A good effort and impressive batting performance, but improvements to be made in our bowling.
