U15 Girls win Friendly at Saffron Walden

When we arrived it was cold, dark, and windy – not cricket weather! We quickly realised with isolations we only had 8 players however Saffron Walden turned up with 6. They had to bat first in the hope that more players would arrive. It was a sloping pitch with some short boundaries. Flo opened the bowling with Saskia, who got 2 early wickets. Millie and Malli bowled next getting 2 and 1 wickets, respectively. Flo came back in for a third over bringing the total to 6 wickets. Jess and Lilly’s overs were essential in keeping the run rate low. The high number of dot balls and Amandi’s keeping helped keep the score down ready for us to bat. Saffron Walden amassed a total of 129 runs.
The storm clouds were disappearing to be replaced by blue sky, but we still had winter coats on. Jess started really well, retiring on 25 after hitting 4x 4’s. Millie was unfortunately run out for 11 and Malli was caught on 24 after adding numerous singles to our score. We alternated our players on to help with the fielding. Flo showed outstanding sportsmanship for diving along the boundary to stop a 4 hit by us! Lily was bowled for 8 and Poppy LBW on 9. Amandi came in for the last over and batted with Saskia who was 16 not out and hit a four to secure our win with a total of 133.
Thanks to the scorers who managed to keep track despite the ever changing rules and to Alisha for coaching and umpiring the girls – smashed those hand signals!
