Match report
Bishops Stortford travelled to Hemel for the first league game of the season, after many rained off fixtures, to play the new U15 girls format.
In this adapted game, for the first 6 balls a batsman faces, they cannot be out, unless run out twice. Naturally, this gives the batsman the opportunity to play positively for their first 6.
Bishops Stortford won the toss, and elected to bat, with the weather beginning slightly cloudy. Opening batsman, Mabel Reid, started Stortford off well, with 3 4s within her first 6 balls. She was eventually retired on 25, as per the rules of the league, having played many beautiful shots and hit 5 4s.
Next in was Saskia Heard, who also batted beautifully, and also scored 3 4s off her first 6 balls. Once again, she was retired on 25.
Excellent contributions from all other players got us up to the demanding total of 156, for only 8 wickets.
The bowling was opened by Mabel and Elizabeth Clune who went for 1-8 and 1-5 respectively. First change bowler Florence Bellerby then took 2 wickets in her 2 overs, and successfully kept the run rate down, putting pressure on the new batsmen.
Another notable bowling performance came from Millie Siggins, who’s figures were 5-9 off her 2 overs.
The final bowler to bowl was Saskia, and her figures were an outstanding 1-4 off her 2 overs. Leaving grand union to finish on 96 for the loss of 13 wickets and 60 run win for Bishop’s Stortford.
Player of the Match - Saskia Heard runs, a wicket and great fielding. A talent for the future
