Having earned a place in the final through a great first season, we knew that playing the one team we had lost too would be a tough game. BSCC won the toss and elected to bat, with Emelia on her way from a 3rd place play off game in Datchworth! BSCC had a difficult start as straight bowling led to 2 quick wickets, but then they slowly built a good but not outstanding score of 278, having lost 5 wickets Frances top scoring with 12 not out.
In reply, Harpenden's older (county) players batted strongly hitting many boundaries, best bowling was Elizabeth Clune taking 1 for 13 off three overs but not enough to stem the flow of runs. Through all of this the girls kept really high standards in the field, showing excellent spirit on a hot day in the face of an excellent batting display from a more experienced team. Harpenden scoring 352 for the loss of just 3 wickets. Player of the match was Elizabeth for her bowling plus 7 not out.
It was great to see them receive the runners up medals from the Head of girls cricket in Hertfordshire Tom Ruxton and Amy Price Herts Ladies captain. The girls should be proud of their performance but also take inspiration from the outcome to come back next year stronger from a winter of training where we can work on their batting and bowling skills. It was a great achievement to get to the final and no shame to lose to the best team in the county.
