We took 6 girls to play an U14s 8 a-side game away at Berkhamsted on Sunday. Unfortunately, the fixture clashing with other girl’s commitments. Our hosts gave us two players and we played an excellent game in the sunshine. Batting first we scored 275 for the loss of 2 wickets. In reply Berko scored 228 and lost 13 wickets, in the end our bowling winning the game as we took more wickets and bowled less wides/no-balls. Player of the match was clearly Emelia Godber who scored 13 runs and took 5 wickets, and took a catch. Great performances all round though with Suzannah Reader, Millie Siggins and Catherine Clune playing in a higher age group, in the absence of older girls and we have another good wicket keeper in Carys Rees. Frances MacKinlay did a great job captaining and opening the batting and bowling.
If there is one lesson from the game for the girls, is don’t be disheartened if you bowl straight and are hit for runs, as often in junior cricket the better bowlers go for runs, but it pays off when you take wickets as we did. Well done to all including the parents who were able to get the girls to the othr side of the county, at least you were blessed with dry weather!
