A beautiful late spring morning saw the Hawks welcome the Old Albanians in glorious sunshine.
The OA Panthers are a new team to hardball and were a mix of u11s and u13s.
They won the toss and elected to field first.
Charlotte (7) and Evie (15) got us off to a good start, followed by Mattie (6) and Imi (5). Mattie and Imi were on great form, but inexperienced bowlers made it very hard for them to get their run rates up. Lots of no balls and wides to contend with but good running on the no balls had the score line creeping up quickly. Ella (4) and Flo (3) faced similar balls, but also ran well on the no balls adding steadily to the now impressive score. Grace (17) and Aggie (6) finished off the batting with confidence. The final score of the innings was a very healthy 354....boosted by the amount of extras given away by the Panthers and due to us only losing 3 wickets.
A quick break and then onto the 2nd innings.
This was a great show of accurate bowling and consistent fielding and it proved too much for the young Panther team. Out of 100 balls, 69 were dot balls. Brilliant!
Highlights were a maiden over each for Mattie, Grace, Charlotte, Ella and Aggie. A wicket apiece for Mattie, Grace, Ella and Florence as well as a run out each for Mattie and Evie, and two for Grace.
Charlotte got 3 great wickets in 4 balls which earns her Player of the Match. Congratulations Charlotte!
A special mention must go to Imi as WK. What a fantastic first game as keeper, some super stops. Well done Imi.
We'd like to thank James for his umpiring and Mark for ably assisting us scoring. Much appreciated.
Our next game at Harpenden will likely be a harder test - keep it up girls!
