U13 girls first summer league match

Our first summer league match saw us head to Sawbo’s windy second ground to play their U11 boys team.

Our team were mainly U12s for some of whom this was their first competitive hardball game.

Sawbo won the toss and elected to bat first. With the hard ground and short boundary Sawbo were looking to score big. Some great bowling from the girls saw wickets taken by Grace (2), Mattie (2), Rhiannon, Sami, Ella, Amelia and Elsie.
Sawbo scored 70 runs but we gave away 76 in extras. With many of the girls used to playing a longer 19 yard wicket all season, the shorter 17 yard wicket for the summer league meant we gave away 26 in no balls that were too high and from some loose fielding at the start gave away some easy 4s for Sawbo.
The hard ground and our fast bowling made keeping hard but well done to Elsie (joining us from the U11s) and Immy (keeping in her first competitive hardball game) who both made some great stops.
Sawbo ended their innings on 146-9.

Mattie and Grace opened our batting with Mattie hitting 3 4’s and ending on 17 after being run out. After some slow scoring, Charlotte then joined the crease with a fantastic fast-scoring innings (5 4’s and retiring on 24). A lovely boundary shot from Mimi and some strong batting from Sami, Maya and Immy over the last few overs followed.
The girls scored 59 runs and with 39 in extras their final score was 98-6.

The final score flattered Sawbo. There was not much between the 2 teams and we lost the game on the extras given away. Lots of fun, some good cricket was played and some things to work on before our next game.
