With a short turnaround and 3 new players joining us, the girls lost the toss and were asked to Bat. Tia and Catherine got us off to strong start until a mad run out pegged them back by 5. Alice and U11 Grace kept the flow of runs going adding 35, with Alice scoring 13 not out. Then Harpenden bowled well and restricted scoring and took a couple of wickets before Poppy and Saskia added 33, with Saskia scoring 18 with a 6 of her first ball! 305-4 seemed like a very strong score at the halfway point.
In reply Stortford bowled well , and new keeper Wanatsa did well as she received a crash course in taking fast paced balls with variable bounce. Scoring was slow and Harpenden didn't look likely to chase the total, and then an excellent catch from Poppy off Lea's bowling, slowed scoring even more. By the time Saskia and Poppy bowled their 6 overs, Harpenden urgently needed runs, and then wickets from Poppy (3-4) including a brilliant catch off her own bowling and Saskia (1-9) won the game for Stortford. Great to see Grace do so well moving up an age group.
Player of the match, was a tussle between Saskia and Poppy, but with 10 (and an unlucky dismissal), 3-4 and those two excellent catches its Poppy O'Toole.
