We drove for an hour in and out of the rain and somehow Berkhamsted was dry and ready for us to play. Poppy won a unique cookie toss and elected to field too assess the conditions before needing to bat. Then as heavy showers took us off twice Stortford managed to ball a good line and length to thwart the Berko batting. No wickets in the first pair but few runs scored, then wickets falling to Mia and Sophie, pegged back the middle order scoring. Finally Catherine and Poppy took a quick three wickets to restrict the score to a chasable 249.
In reply Marie got us off to a brilliant start with excellent batting, scoring 19 runs and building a partnership of 38 with Poppy. Those runs proved decisive as everyone else managed to get out at least once, meaning the scores stayed close throughout, extras proving a key source of runs.
Down to the final over and one more lost wicket would hand the game to Berko but Catherine and Alice managed to score a few more runs and lose no more wickets and the game was won. Training will once again focus on defending our wicket, as without Marie's runs Stortford would have been in trouble. Thankfully we got a game despite the weather and we travelling home tired and slightly damp.
Player of the Match Marie Surujbally.
