The U12 girls travelled to play last years league champions St Albans. For some this was their first BSCC game and the team showed excellent spirit and enthusiasm throughout. Bowling first, Stortford held them to a low score, with Catherine (2-8), Lily (2-9) and Malli (1-2) best bowling, but everyone doing really well with the ball and in the field.
In reply, Stortford quickly over took the St Albans score but then a sudden string of wickets left at 238 after 12 overs, then Catherine and Poppy batted carefully to take the score back ahead and despite a scare in the final over got Stortford over the line. Accounting for the impact of losing 5 runs for a wicket Léa topped scored with 7, whilst Malli and Florence hit some great blows but also lost their wicket once of more.
If Stortford can learn to score those runs without getting out we look like a strong side, but we will have to practice hitting the boundary and not hitting catches to fielders!
Player of the match Malli Came for her runs and wicket. Next match is Grand Union on Sunday.
