U9 kept up their unbeaten run in the league with a dramatic 1 run victory over Hertford. Hertford won the toss and opted to bat first, posting 267-5 on the dry and hardened pitch on the plateau.
Seb made the first breakthrough in the second over, thanks to a fine catch at mid-on by Ibrahim. Bradley was involved in the other 4 wickets to fall as he put in a solid performance with the ball and in the field. First he took a catch off the bowling of Alexander then 2 overs later reacted quickly to run the non striker out as batters changed their mind over a quick single. Bradley then dislodged the bails in his second over and again with the final ball of the innings. He finished with 2 wickets for just 2 runs off his 3 overs.
In reply, Theo drove a fine shot down the ground for 4 runs as he, Alexander, Thabani and Angus batted sensibly and without losing a wicket. Jake also found the boundary and demonstrated some excellent calling and running between the wickets to top score with an unbeaten 10.
Ibrahim and Seb faced some excellent Hertford bowling during the death overs and were made to work for the victory. Seb struck a fine pull shot to the boundary to surpass the target but then a wicket maiden in the penultimate over kept Hertford in with a chance. U9 needed 2 runs off the final over to win and got there from a rare Hertford wide.
Well done U9!
