U9 brightened up what was an otherwise depressing day for English cricket with a dazzling batting display against Broxbourne. Choosing to bat first, U9 surpassed the 300 mark for the third time this season, with every player contributing runs. Ibrahim and Jake top scored, each biffing an unbeaten 16 runs. They, along with Bradley, Brandon and Seb all whacked at least one boundary as U9 set their opponents a challenging target of 314 to win. The batting was positive. Cuts and pulls were used to dispatch the short balls whilst the good ones were shown respect by the batters.
U9 restricted the run chase thanks to some good old fashioned wicket taking. Olly was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2 wickets for just 4 runs off his 2 overs., Brandon, Angus, Ibrahim, Jake and Hugo all got in on the act as Broxbourne closed 60 runs short with 254/8.
This was a great finale to what has been a successful and enjoyable first season for these young and developing cricketers. The improvement in bowling, batting and fielding throughout the summer has been amazing to see but more importantly, every U9 player has played with a smile on their face.
Well done U9!
