U9 beat St Margaretsbury

The temperature was a fraction under 30 degrees as U9 arrived in St Margaretsbury seeking a league
double over the young team.

U9 won the toss and backed themselves to chase a target. St Margaretsbury’s openers started positively, scoring off anything short of a length and benefiting from some over exuberant fielding. A wicket from Seb followed by a wicket maiden from Max helped put the brakes on. A few overs later Zafir took 2 wickets in 2 balls thanks to catches from Brandon and Hugo. Zafir finished with his best bowling figures of the season, taking 3 wickets for 8 runs off his 2 overs. Hugo and Angus were the other wicket takers whilst a super direct hit from Seb limited St Margaretsbury to 260/8.

Zafir and Max opened the innings, batting patiently to finish their set without the loss of a wicket. Hugo found the boundary as he batted and ran well with Rayaan. Rayaan was unlucky to hit his own wicket attempting to move the score along at the end of the set. Olly and Angus came in to play their own style of bazball. Both found the boundary on their way to score 11 runs each. Some better shot selection against the straight ball could have made the game safe before the last pair came in though! Final pair Seb and Brandon added 29 runs to the U9 score. Seb found the boundary on his way to top score an unbeaten 14 as U9 closed on 283/7 to win by 23 runs.
