The group’s 2 unbeaten sides met up on the Plateau on a cool and overcast evening. U9 won the toss and decided to bat first.
All players contributed with the bat in what was a busy U9 innings. Communication and running between the wickets was positive, with each pair showing a marked improvement in calling and pushing for runs. 20 singles were scored in total, plus boundaries from Josh, Brandon and Max, who top scored with an unbeaten 9 runs, helping to close the innings on 268/4.
The U9 bowling was as good as it has been all season, starving Broxbourne of scoring opportunities with 63 dot balls out of the 100 bowled. Max opened with a wicket maiden and capped a fine all round cricketing performance, finishing with figures of 2 for 3 off 3 overs. Well played Max! Olly also took 2 wickets, including a fine caught and bowled, his second of the season. Josh then took a wicket before taking a lovely catch off the bowling of Jasper. The final Broxbourne pair rallied but it was not enough, closing the innings short of the target on 242/6.
Overall this was a fine performance from U9 but improvements can still be made to our running, in particular in converting some of those singles into 2’s.
