After winning the toss and putting Harlow into bat, the U9s made an impressive start with the ball, with Josh, Bradley, Hugo and Max taking 5 wickets between them in the first 5 overs.
A fine throw from Max at fine leg resulted in a run out before Thabani, making his BSCC debut, dislodged the bails with with his first ball in competitive cricket. Well done Thabani!
From then on though Harlow grew in confidence and improved whilst U9 seemed to lose a little bit of concentration and become complacent. Was it the heat or the large outfield or were we beginning to under estimate our opponents? I am not sure but U9 gave away 59 extras in total during the innings, the highest number since the first game of the season, allowing Harlow to recover and close on 225/9.
All players contributed with the bat. Max made 10 runs, the highlight being a lovely pull shot to the long boundary for 3. Freddie and Zafir made the most of some indifferent bowling and, following a disappointing run out, demonstrated some much better calling and running towards the end of their set of overs. Hugo found the boundary twice to top score for the team with an impressive 13 not. Farai also finished unbeaten, making 6 runs with the bat off just 5 balls faced. Bradley saw off some strong bowling at the close with some good defensive work to see U9 finish the innings on 268/8.
Well done U9s on maintaining the winning start to the season. There are still plenty of areas for improvement though, not least bowling accuracy and running between the wickets.
