The U9s hosted an inexperienced St Margaretsbury team on a sunny but cool evening up on the plateau. The visitors opted to bat first but had to face some accurate and reasonably consistent bowling from the U9 attack. In fact it was an excellent team effort with the ball, with 7 players taking wickets, including 3 for Felix and 2 each from debutants Angus and Ibrahim. Max and Austin both took two super catches each and Olly will be delighted with his caught and bowled. Scoring had been slow until the final pair came in, making the fielders finally do some work and helping St Margaretsbury to close on 206 for 13.
In reply, the U9s scored steadily, possibly lacking some urgency and motivation in chasing such a low total. Opening pair Olly and Seb set a solid start, communicating and running well between the wickets before Max, Jasper and top scorer Angus all found the boundary to really put the game beyond doubt. Felix and Austin saw out the final overs to close the innings on 250 for 6.
Overall another good display for this age group so early in the season. However, as we move into summer our opponents will only get better. If we want to win more games this season then we must keep trying our best in training. Well done U9s.
