Second win of the week for buoyant U9s

U9 made their second trip of the season to face an inexperienced Braughing side. U9 offered to field first as Braughing waited for 2 of their 8 players to arrive. The Braughing openers were in no mood for hanging around, racing to 217/0 off the first 2 overs. They were soon stopped in their tracks as 2 run outs followed some great work in the field. It was a theme that continued through the innings as Braughing lost 12 wickets in total, 8 of which were run outs. Most were avoidable had the calling and running been a bit sharper but Ollie was not complaining. He demonstrated some intelligent fielding and accurate throwing to claim 6 of the 8 run outs.

In amongst the chaos, Thabani was provided with a simple caught and bowled off his first delivery. Felix bowled a lovely line and length to dislodge the bails twice. He was the pick of the U9 bowlers, finishing with 2 wickets for just 5 runs off his 2 overs. Special mention to Austin who did not bowl a single wide or no ball in his 2 overs. Theo took the final wicket as Braughing crashed to set U9 a target of 235 to win.

In reply, openers Ollie and Rayaan both found the boundary. They did not let an early run out stop them taking a number high risk singles thoughout their set. Austin and Thabani adopted a much safer strategy to add 13 to the scoreboard without the loss of a further wicket. Maddie, who was making her first appearance for U9 this season, top scored with an unbeaten 14 runs. She batted and ran very well with Felix as they demonstrated good judgement and calling for runs. U9 were already 13 runs ahead when final pair Ibrahim and Theo came to the crease. Ibrahim hit 2 boundaries to finish unbeaten on 11 as U9 closed on 257/4 to win by 23 runs.
