U9s v St Margaretsbury

What a game to start the season - run outs, sixes, a hat-trick and the result went to the final ball. Stortford batted first with Stephan and Bradley taking the score to 217 despite losing 2 wickets. Alfie and Lucas accelerated sharing 5 boundaries including a six just spoiled by a run out which left the score at 248 at halfway. Arron and Hugo added 21 runs batting as the 3rd pair and then Freddie hit 2 4s and a big 6 with good singles from Bradley but 2 more run outs reduced the final total to 280. In their innings I thought everyone bowled reasonably straight but and we were unlucky not to pick up more wickets especially Arron bowling 3 tight overs for 8 runs. Lucas got our only wicket until up stepped Hugo to bowl the last over and nearly pulled off a remarkable win - he took a hattrick all clean bowled middle stump meaning we need 1 wicket of the final ball to win but the opposition batsman just kept it out. Well bowled Hugo!! Unfortunately 4 run outs cost us 20 runs and proved to be the difference but it was an exciting game.
