A reduced 12 overs-a-side match due to heavy rain forecast resulted in a comfortable win for BSCC U9s against the league leaders Broxbourne 1st. Broxbourne captain won the toss and decided to bat on a green-top wicket ending with only 236/3 runs. BSCC U9s bowled steadily with a wicket a-piece for Stanley and Daniel, plus an accurate run-out by Daniel.
In reply, with the light fading and rain in the air, BSCC batters batted thoughtfully and skilfully to make sure we got in front and not take any risks. Everyone batted steadily, as was required, with Harrison top scoring at 7/1 and Harry at 6, resulting in 252/1 off the 12 overs.
For me, this was the most impressive all-round performance with a step-change maturity shown by all the players. On the field, everyone worked well as a team with; diving stops, accurate throws and good back-up. In batting, everyone knew exactly what was required and batted clinically.
It seems the Sunday match-format training on the plateau is accelerating everyone's cricket learning skills and therefore we hope to keep this going into the future.
