U9s v Hertford

The crowd was thoroughly entertained last night with the match decided by a runout off the very last ball.
Hertford's batsmen made steady unspectacular progress but only lost 1 wicket to Matthew Crowther. Their 3rd and 4th pairings accelerated nicely with Finlay Quinn the only other wicket taker setting a target of 268 runs.
Samuel Caton and Thomas Coates started well with 3 boundaries but needless run outs knocked the score back a bit. Matthew and Lotty Hobson then batted very well scoring 27 without losing a wicket in their 4 overs. Three more boundaries from Archie Pyle and George Taylor added another 25 from our 3rd pair so with 13 to win Finlay Quinn and Adam Tyler levelled the scores with 2 overs to go only to lose 2 wickets in the next over to leave 7 required from the last. Adam hit a boundary and 2 singles brought the scores level with 1 ball to go - all 3 results still possible. The ball was missed by batsman and keeper but good fielding from Hertford thwarted the dash for glory and the run out gave victory to our opponents - a great game played in a good spirit. The biggest positive was that we only bowled 5 wides (compared with 16 from Hertford).
