An enthralling game of cricket between two very evenly matched under 9 teams.

Captain: Benjamin Furrer

Stortford were in to bat first. Off to a flying start with Alex getting a boundary and solid scoring with his partner Freddie. The next pairing saw Angus and Ted rack up another 23 runs. The Captain and Matthew then produced another great pairing, scoring 22 runs that included two boundaries from our Captain. Finally, the partnership between Aidan and William was lovely to watch. The boys added another 27 runs to our total. Aidan scored 8 boundaries no less, in an impressive display. Well done boys!!

Bishop's Stortford 280/6

Broxbourne started off slowly. Our bowlers were a lot more accurate and didn't give away many wides. Freddie took 2 wickets in quick succession and at the end of 8 overs, Stortford looked very comfortable with Broxbourne only putting 30 runs down.We lost the game in the next 8 overs. As Broxbourne edged closer with the next 4 overs scoring 30 runs, Stortford began to feel the pressure. The home team still needed 21 runs though to win off 4 overs. Who would hold their nerve?

Unfortunately for our U9's it was the home team. We panicked and in our efforts to stump people out, the ball was overthrown and run on for another few runs. Players shouting at each other needlessly meant that throws were rushed and our previous calm demeanor was lost and the errors came all too often. We lost our unity, and communication and instructions from your Captain and Coach were lost as you all began giving orders.

Broxbourne 281/4

U9's I know you were very disheartened by the result losing by just one run.You have no need to be. It was a fantastic match to watch. It was wonderful to see you play so well for the majority of the match. This is your first year playing matches. Look at what the whole squad has achieved in these last few months. You have all improved immensely. There are always lessons to be taken away from all the things we do...even as adults!! But try and learn from the mistakes we made last night. We had that game won. But we wobbled when we were put under pressure. Let's learn from this match to keep our discipline and not rush our play. Think, remain calm and support one another when it looks like it's getting tough.

Well done U9's.... we were very, very proud of you!!
