Captain for the U9's was Aidan Murphy
Stortford lost the toss and the home team chose to bat first. The U9's were in impressive form yet again when fielding. They stopped the ball well, threw well, communicated and covered well for each other. There were five catches(four in the field and one by the wicket keeper) in total. This, and the fact that all bowlers were in fine form with very few Wides given away meant the home team needed to make the runs. The bowlers and fielders made sure those runs were limited with two run outs as well. Slightly disappointing.... Only one wicket taken. Maybe a bit more practice in this area, but your accuracy has improved immeasurably. You're listening to your coaches!!
St. Margaretsbury 225-1
Stortford in to bat. Some very strong pairings, that worked and communicated well together. St. Margaretsbury had two or three great bowlers. They managed to take three wickets. In reply we hit five boundaries. We need to work on those defensive shots though against the good bowlers and not give away those wickets!! It's not about scoring runs against strong bowlers, it's about not giving away the points by losing your wicket. One boundary is 4 points. Lose a wicket, you lose 5 points!! It is always better to try and protect your wicket against a strong bowler.
Bishop's Stortford 251-3
What is really great to report is the strong sense of team spirit right throughout the team. Great support when required and encouragement of each other. There were fantastic debuts from Freddie Brown, Angus MacKenna and Benjamin Furrer. The whole team played exceptionally well. Well done!!
Nearly forgot.... There were questionable umpiring decisions during the game... I have given them a copy of the rule book for some bedtime reading!! Scoring was frighteningly accurate!! Jokes aside.... Thank you to our coach and guru Steve "Bugsy" Burrow....is that ok Steve???
