Thanks to David Haigh for this match report...
On a bright and sunny Monday evening in Broxbourne the BSCC under 10s showed great consistency with both the bat and the ball but it was the energy, togetherness and accuracy in the field that took their game to a new level.
Brandon and Hugo opened the batting, rotating the strike energetically with a sprinkle of boundaries when the opportunities arose. Next in were Austin and Aaron, who showed patience to bat themselves in but started finding the boundaries towards the end of their set. Henry and Angus also decided to go through the gears with their shots, their calling between the wickets didn’t always match up but they got away with it kept the scoreboard ticking. Max and Farai were the last pair, running well, hitting boundaries to set a target of 280/7.
Aaron opened the bowling for Stortford, his line was superb throughout his set and when he got his length on track there were very little opportunities. Hugo and Brandon were next bowling with accuracy and pace to stifle the opposition. Henry’s first over proved economic but in the second with score board pressure mounting two wickets fell to put Stortford really in the driving seat. Like the bowlers before them Farai and Max bowled with accuracy, pace and power, the runs dried up and they both picked up wickets with their aggressive and economic bowling.
At this point a win for Stortford looked on the cards but the last set saw some spectacular fielding by Stortford. The energy and teamwork in the field was great to see, the players recognised when to attack the stumps and when to defend in the field. There were catches from Max at Mid-off and Angus behind the stumps, the backing up and teamwork from everyone was superb but it was Hugo fielding at 3rd man who shone the brightest with two spectacular run outs to really drive home the advantage with Broxbourne 40 runs out posting a total of 240/7.
