U10 took enough wickets to win 2 games of cricket in Broxbourne but came out second best due to some poor decision making in the field. Max, Farai, Freddie, Austin and Bradley all found the boundary but the loss of 8 wickets limited U10 to a modest total of 249. Broxbourne's bowling was typically accurate but U10 did themselves no favours with some fraught negotiations and indecisive calling for runs in the middle.
U10 have set a high standard in the field so far this season, drawing praise from opposition coaches and parents, and they would need to use all of their skills and experience again to prevent a home victory. An economical start with the ball preceded a double wicket over by Brandon to have Broxbourne reeling on 198/2 after 4 overs. But instead of building momentum, U10 released all the pressure on Broxboune's batters with a reckless over of fielding. 18 runs were scored off an over in which only one shot was played. Overthrows were conceded by fielders taking a needless shy at the stumps whilst others failed to provide adequate back up behind the stumps.
U10 continued to plug away with the ball with a further 7 Broxbourne wickets falling to, Seb, Austin, Farai and Bradley and a third of the innings for Brandon. All while Angus maintained focus and kept tidily behind the stumps.
But on this occasion it wasn't to be enough. Bad luck U10 and no complaints about the fielding drills at practice this weekend!
