A match winning catch of the season contender from Farai helped U10 grind out another hard fought victory in the hardball league.
Hugo hit 4 boundaries in an unbeaten knock of 19 whilst Max pulled an almighty six over square leg on his way to 20 runs (albeit he got caught a few balls later trying the very same shot)! However, the purist's highlight of the innings again came off the bat of Angus. Facing Hertford's quick opening bowler, he leaned into one (not at all unlike former England test captain Sir Alistair Cook), using the pace of the ball to deflect it back past the bowler and down the ground for 4 runs. Austin and Farai both finished unbeaten and with double figures to help U10 close their innings on 298/7.
In reply, Hertford got off to the worst possible start. Max struck with the first ball of the innings as he and Farai gave the opening pair very few scoring opportunities. But despite a a wicket from Hugo and a run out by Max, the next two Hertford pairs added 64 runs to the chase, swinging the win predictor back in Hertford's favour. Needing just 15 runs off the last 13 balls, and with Hertford's final pair looking to finish the job, a thick top edge flew high into the evening sky and over the tiring U10 fielders. Farai leapt into action, scurrying from mid-wicket and launching himself to take and somehow hold on to the ball, giving Hugo his second wicket of the innings and sending U10 into delirium. Hertford rallied in the penultimate over but a cool final over under pressure from Austin saw out the game and secure a 9 run victory, the third of the season over Hertford.
Well done U10!
