Second incrediball victory of the season for U10

Some glorious Monday night sunshine on the plateau saw the under 10s came out on top against a disciplined and spirited Sawbridgeworth team. Both teams bowled with great accuracy and fielded with high energy levels.

Captain Jake (who’s grandfather was in the stands) led his team out to bat with new signing George. A nagging line and length from the Sawbridgeworth bowlers made scoring difficult but great scampering between the stumps by Jake and George’s ability to punish any width with boundaries meant the opening pair got U10 off to a great start. Angus and Charlie punished the tiring bowlers, finding several boundaries late om in their set. Some more composure by the Sawbridgeworth fielders could and should have punished the pair but if you take your chances and put the opposition under pressure then fortune favours the brave.

Theo and Jasper were solid as a rock at the crease, giving nothing away to the opposition. Once the pair were set they started to find the boundaries and with the scoreboard ticking along nicely they decided to adopt a lower risk approach than the previous pair.

Final pair Crosby and Zafir continued to play “Jakeball” as per the captains orders. A measured approach to start with followed by more expansive shot selection and like their predecessors an ability to scamper between the wickets and take advantage of any loose fielding or over-throws meant at the halfway point Stortford had set an imposing total of 263.

Captain Jake once again set the tone, bowling with accuracy and purpose. The U10 fielders were like a wolfpack, alert, on their toes and ready to pounce on any half chances. With scoreboard pressure building the riskier shots came out and both Jake and George were rewarded with wickets. Angus and Charlie ripped through their overs, whilst Theo and Jasper bowled well to restrict scoring before also taking wickets.

Any chance of a Sawbridgeworth comeback was snuffed out by the bowling of Crosby and Zafir combined with Theo and Jasper’s dynamism in the field. Sawbo struggled once again to get any scoring opportunities off Crosby’s bowling and that opened the door for Zafir to all but end the contest with some fine wicket taking deliveries.

A big thanks to David and Rohan for overseeing this U10 match
