Under 10s won their opening league match of the season in an entertaining encounter with Hertford. Hertford won the toss but may have regretted their decision to bowl as the light began to disappear towards the end of their innings.
In an eventful first over, Brandon found the boundary with a fine straight shot down the ground before he and Bradley were both clean bowled in back to back deliveries.
Max and Ollie pressed the accelerator, finding the boundary 3 times between them to take the score to 226 at the midway point of the innings. Ibrahim and Aaron batted steadily. Ibrahim in particular demonstrated Boycottesque resilience to protect his wicket against some fast and very accurate Hertford bowling.
Final pair Seb C and Teddy were busy at the crease, hitting several 1's and 2's to add to Teddy's boundary and set Hertford a target of 255 to win.
Under 10s, if a little overzealous with some of their appeals, hustled with great energy and enthusiasm in the field. Bowling was clean and tidy as the Hertford batters were made to work for every run. Bradley applied the brakes on the opening pair, dislodging the bails with his first ball, a feat he repeated twice more in the final over as the light began to fade. A wicket a piece for Ollie and Aaron and 2 run outs following smart fielding from Brandon and then from Bradley always kept the game just out of Hertford's reach.
