U10B v Hertford

U10B lost the toss and were put into bat. James, who top scored with 8, and Taylor both found the boundary but otherwise U10B found runs very hard to come by as Hertford were rewarded for bowling consistently on a good line and length.
By the end of the innings 10 wickets had fallen at a cost of 50 runs, giving Hertford a simple target of 229 to win.
U10B took to the field in high spirits and set about creating a lively atmosphere. At times the good humoured chatter seemed to weaken U10B’s own concentration more than it did the Hertford batters but there were still some excellent individual pieces of fielding. Max took a fine catch off the bowling of Freddie but produced even better in the next over, a super direct hit from deep fine leg, catching the batters by surprise as they attempted a second run. Later on, Bradley was unfortunate to ground the ball on landing from an attempted diving catch at mid wicket.
Only 2 further wickets fell in the Hertford innings. Bradley was provided with a simple caught and bowled and late on Josh clean bowled a Hertford batter who had been intimated by the pace and accuracy of his bowling.
In summary, these were 2 evenly matched teams that both scored a near equal number of runs. The difference was the number of U10B wickets that tumbled throughout the innings. We played to many lofted shots to catch hungry fielders and did not protect our stumps well enough to the straight deliveries. Unlucky U10B but we know we are capable of better cricket than this.
