U10s win by 11 runs in a game that was anything but a damp squib

Under 10s were at their very best to overcome a high quality Tring Park side in difficult and wet conditions and make it through to Finals day . Opening pair Angus and Hugo stood up to some fiery pace bowling before both were castled in a devastating 4th over. Second pair Max and Farai batted positively, both making hay against some awkward spin bowling. Max hit 3 boundaries to top score with 19 not out whilst Farai found the boundary once in his unbeaten 8. Brandon sent his first ball to the boundary with a wonderful drive down the ground to really put pressure on the home team. Both he and Freddie added 26 without loss before Tring introduced yet more pace into the attack to finally get Brandon's wicket. Final pair Bradley and Aaron were typically busy at the crease. Aaron batted on bravely after taking an early blow on an unprotected thigh. Ouch! Bradley saved shot of the day for the penultimate ball of the innings. He punished a full delivery with with a well timed sweep scoop, using the pace of the ball to send it sailing over fine leg for 4 runs. It was a shot the U10s had been practicing at training the previous week, well done Bradley (#Roooot)!

Defending a total of 293, U10 were immediately put under pressure. The Tring Park opening pair added a quick 25 before an indecisive run gave U10 their first wicket. Max took 2 wickets with his first two balls, the second an almost unplayable delivery, to tip the win predictor back in U10s favour and give the team renewed belief. With the clouds darkening and rain falling, the conditions for bowling and fielding were becoming increasingly difficult. Max capped a complete all round cricket performance when he held onto the wet ball to take a catch off the bowling of Bradley. Both Bradley and Farai claimed run outs, Farai once again with an incredible direct hit from deep in the field. Brandon worked hard in the field despite not being able to use his throwing arm following a bowling injury. His discomfort was obvious but he overcame it to hold onto the ball and take a brave catch off the bowling of Farai. Tring Park rallied late on to make the scores close but U10s were just too good for their opponents on this occasion. Well done U10!
