U10 Incrediball Win Last Ball Thriller

Bishops Stortford batted first and started steadily with Max and Reggie adding 14 and Reggie finding the boundary. We then lost a few wickets as our batsmen needed to adapt to a bouncier pitch that we are used to. Henry and Ted put on a strong third partnership of 16 and batted really well as a pair calling and running well and each hitting a boundary. James and Ridley then kept that positive momentum and Oli and Rupert finished things off with a flourish, Oli hitting three boundaries. However, each of the last three pairs lost wickets and that left us with a fairly low total of 241.

Hertford's first pair batted well and added 27 making the target look straight forward, but we just needed to start taking wickets and Henry got the ball rolling with three wickets and a run out in his first over. The team picked it up at that point and got five run outs in the next three overs as Hertford's batsmen struggled under pressure. A new Hertford pair then settled down and scored steadily again adding 22. This left their last pair needing just 11. Rupert bowled a very tight over for just a single, but good batting from Hertford then put them ahead of the target with 8 balls left. James immediately opened the game back up with wicket from a fantastic in-swinging yorker. Hertford needed three off the last over. Oli bowled it really solidly under pressure, fielding one ball that was struck back at him very hard. Four dots were followed by an unfortunate wide which left Hertford needing on run to win. Hertford were then forced to run for a bye off the last ball, as they were behind on wickets, but a fairly clean pick up from James behind the stumps won the game for us.

It was a great performance by everyone to defend that total. (And exciting viewing for us parents!)
