Bishops Stortford batted first and put together some solid partnerships, preserving wickets and batting really sensibly on a more difficult pitch than our last game. Top scorers were Joseph with 16 (three fours) and James B with 14 (two fours). Shot of the innings though went to Henry with a straight hit at the umpire's head for four (sorry I'm biased). Also some players showed that they have adapted really well to the need in hardball games to see off some of the better bowling which was great to see.
St Margaretsbury got off to a strong start with a hard hitting opening batsmen, who hit a big six off the second ball, but the team know that they have the ability to work there way back into defending a total and began to chip away at St Margaretsbury by taking wickets. After his first ball was hit into the deep Thomas bowled a bit quicker and took a great wicket. Two overs later he took a towering catch off Rupert's bowling at long on after sprinting around the boundary. If an U10 takes a better catch this year I hope I am there to see it! James A, Henry, James B, Ridley, Adi and Joseph all then chipped in with a wicket each in the second half of the innings. Adi and James B also bowled very tightly and Rupert saved several boundaries sliding on the boundary. St Margaretsbury needed 25 off the last two overs. After a few nervous moments the team realised that they just needed to get hold of the ball after each delivery to win and they closed the game out.
