U10 Start Hardball Season

We had the first hardball league game on Wednesday evening at Sawbridgeworth. We lost the toss and were put into bat. Oliver and Joseph made a solid start batting with Joseph playing a gorgeous flick of the legs through square leg to get the boundary count going for the season. We were not able to keep that momentum going and lost wickets in the middle overs, although that was offset to in part by more boundary hitting from Adi and Rohan. Sawbridgeworth also fielded almost perfectly throughout and showed us what we need to aim for ourselves as we progress into the season. James and Henry put on a solid partnership at the end to get the team to 244.

Our bowling was generally very good. James and Adi both taking two wickets, and some really accurate and quite hostile bowling was on show. The team stuck to fielding really well in the cold and the dark and did a great job of encouraging each other, but we couldn't quite keep the squeeze on the batting that Sawbridgeworth had managed and in the last couple of overs they got ahead of our score.

Given that for all but one of the team this was their first hardball match they should be really proud of themselves, and I should mention in particular the keepers Rohan and Joseph who did a great job given that this was their first stint behind the stumps.
