BSCC 265/7 lost to Tring 303/5

On arguably the hottest cricketing day of the year, Tring won the toss and put BSCC in for the second hardball semi-finals of the day at Sawbo.

Cameron and Felix went in to bat; as we wondered why the keeper was half way to the boundary and had both fine leg and third-man behind him! It was soon clear that Tring's opening bowler, Kit, was a BIG lad with FEARSOME pace!! He must've bowled at 60+ mph and could easily make our men's team! Both Cam and Felix were bowled out before a yorker smashed into Cameron's toes and he had to leave retired hurt. FYI, he did bowl later so survived, but very lucky not to have broken anything - perhaps time to buy Cam "cricket" boots David! Anyway, we lost 4 wickets after the first 4 overs and only just managed to be on 200 runs after 8 overs. Daniel and Henry steadied the ship with beautiful shots all around the park and along the ground, putting on 37 valuable runs, with Daniel top scoring on 24, but again bowled out by Kit! This was Daniel's highest score of the year - so well done there. Ed and Stanley kept up the momentum with more lovely timing to take the score to a respectable 265, but the early onslaught, 7 wickets and Kit would be too costly!

BSCC started with Daniel and Cameron, both picking up a wicket each and Stanley running out Kit - game on with Tring on 215/3 after the first 4 overs! But, the heat took its toll and we struggled to keep up the pressure with some wides and wayward bowling. Their second pair put on 31 runs, even with a great stumping by Henry off Stanley. The third pair put on 24 runs with another fantastic Stanley direct throw run out. And the final pair added a further 31 runs without losing a wicket to take the score to 303/5, i.e. there were no weak Tring batters!

The boys had given their hearts out and everyone contributed +100% - ALL the parents, myself and most of the opponents were impressed by their performance, grit and determination, bearing in mind 6/8 boys could play U9s cricket. Just heard that Tring won the finals, so we were beaten by the best U10s team in Hertfordshire!

In addition, our U10s incrediball team did even better and reached the FINALS at Radlett CC - a separate report to follow soon - well done Ossie for captaining the side and Charlie for looking after the affairs at Radlett.

I am very proud of all 16 players and highly impressed how far they have come since the start of the season - WELL DONE BOYS!
