BSCC U10s 255/4 lost to Broxbourne 265/4

BSCC won the toss and decided to bat on an overcast and cool evening, trying to make the most of the poor evening light.

However, we did not account for the dry and bumpy pitch, which made batting rather tricky. It was a slow start by Sam and Harrison, getting out once each and ending on 202 only. Tom and Ossie, injected some needed pace, with a 24 run partnership and Tom top scoring 11 runs with 2 classic boundaries. James and Will then struggled again with a 7 run partnership. Daniel and Henry again tried to speed up with a quick 22 run partnership, but still ending probably ~20 runs too short, at 255 for 4. As a general note, we need to work on more positive stroke play, particularly on the offside and take quick singles when the ball goes in between fielders!

In reply, our bowling and fielding was outstanding. Tight overs by Harrison and Tom resulted in a wicket each and there was amazing diving stops and backing up by Ossie. Their first three partnerships were 12, 11 and 12 runs, with the score at 235 before the final pair walked in. Henry put on more pressure, by taking a wicket with the score at 234 runs and 3 overs to go. However, our last 3 overs went for 31 runs, mainly by one of their batsman, Dylan, who batted sensibly, dispatched the lose deliveries, took cheeky singles mainly to keep the strike and then manoeuvred his team to victory.

This was the first test for the U10s and we fought hard, but failed to remain cool in the last 3 overs. Hopefully, we learn and get back to winning ways against Hoddesdon on Monday.
