The last league match for 2018 was at picturesque Datchworth, but unfortunately the result was a bit one sided. BSCC won the toss and asked Datchworth to bat on a lovely wicket, with a short boundary and on a beautiful sunny summer evening.
Datchworth, had no answer to BSCC bowling and fielding prowess, only managing 212/7, 5 of the wickets were run outs! I guess the one slight disappointment was that most bowlers did not bowl straight enough to cash in with a lot more wickets. Although, Felix and Ollie did so with a wicket each!
In reply, BSCC batted aggressively with instructions to attack even the wider deliveries and make sure everyone cashes in. Unfortunately, this was made difficult with only 73 legal deliveries out of 96! But, even so, Ed started like a rocket and blasted a quick 28 runs (the teams highest score this year!), putting on 50 runs with Ossie. Ollie (8 runs) and Felix (19 runs) kept up the momentum with a further 45 run partnership. Unfortunately, George and Nicoli were at the receiving end of the straightest deliveries and got out 3 times. And finally Stanley (12/1) and Daniel (8) cleaned up with a 39 run partnership. BSCC ended on a mammoth 330/4, our second highest score of the year. Well done also to Ed and Stanley for hitting their first sixes of the year too!
This win made it 9 matches in a row without a loss, which must be some sort of a record. We won 14 out of the 16 matches, losing only to Broxbourne's hard and incrediball teams. We ended second in the hardball and top in the incrediball leagues and are therefore through to the play-off stages for both competitions - a very well done to all who players involved!
Let's keep up the momentum and hope we go one step further than last year and end with some silverware. With our current squad, I think that's areal possibility!
