Broxbourne (unbeaten so far) were two players short, so BSCC decided they batted first on a lovely summer evening.
Even though Broxbourne never lost a wicket, they never really got away with due to an excellent BSCC bowling and fielding performance. Henry was excellent behind the stumps, Stanley was as sharp as usual in the field, Cameron was almost unplayable with in-swinging pace and the general fielding energy level was high. We were happy with Broxbourne score at 274/0, although would've liked a wicket or two!
BSCC started well with Henry and Stanley putting together an incredible 37 runs/0. They both dispensed two boundaries each, played very sensibly and top scored at 13 runs each. Dylan and Freddie struggled to keep up this momentum with Dylan getting caught and then there was a run out. But, Cameron and Harrison steadied the ship with a very useful 21/0 run partnership. So, Daniel and Ed needed only 15 runs to win off 4 overs, a simple task we thought!!
It was going well with some careful batting by both and the score was at 277 before the start of the final over. A wide made the total 279 runs or 5 ahead. But, on the LAST ball, disaster struck - Daniel played the ball nicely to point and decided to take a MAD single. Unfortunately Ed did not make it and got run out with the scores level!!
Importantly, I hope lessons are learnt to try to understand the match situation, particularly near the end. The batsmen or bowlers must know how many runs or wickets are needed to win. We could've been 4 runs ahead and a wicket could've lost us the game, which would've been even more disappointing after such a great team effort. We play good cricket, but let's also try to play "clever" cricket if we want to succeed!
BTW, we are playing Broxbourne again tomorrow - an incrediball game, so let's hope we can play "clever" then.
