Having lost the toss and being put in , Stortford made steady progress with the bat early on. Runs were difficult to come by on a slow wicket, but solid defence and a little wayward bowling ensured there was a steady accumulation throughout the innings. Edward and George stayed solid until George was bowled on the last ball of their partnership, but a partnership of 11 got us going. Cameron and Oli avoided any dismissals putting on 12, before Sam and Harrison put together the biggest partnership of the match of 21, with Harrison putting his three dismissals of last week behind him, remaining not out and hitting the only 4 of the innings off the bat! Ossie and Ed batted well but were unlucky with a couple of good deliveries, putting on 9 having lost their wicket 3 times. Their running between the wickets was something that the others can hopefully learn from, well done both. Stortford finished on 253-4 which felt like a defendable score with our strong bowling attack.
It was clear quite early on that Datchworth would struggle to score against Stortford’s accurate bowling, with all the boys performing admirably. Only 2 wides in the whole innings was a fine achievement. The pace and swing of Cameron, Harrison and Ed earned them two wickets apiece with George taking the other one thanks to a fine catch from Oli at backward point – having pointed out that he didn’t want to field a ball at all! At the end of the innings Datchworth had scored 200-7 meaning a comfortable 53 run victory. Well done everyone, a fine team performance. And well done Sam for skippering and doing a fine job as wicket keeper.
