Encouraging signs for next year.

Having been beaten by Broxbourne away at the end of June it was sad to see we couldn't gain a victory on home ground.
With Luke as our Captain we won the flip of the coin and took to bowling first.

First into Bowl was Noah, followed by Austin by the end of the first four overs Broxbourne had scored 228.
Even though it was windy on the top tier we had given away 6 wides.
Eliot came on and scored his first wicket of the match, Luke delivered a wicket in the fifth and Noah performed in the field by catching their batsman out.
The 6th over see our captain Luke also catch a batsman out.
Eliot gave us another wicket in the 7th over. Of the remaining first innings our bowling was still not as good as it could have been, resulting in a further 8 wides and 3 no balls being suffered. Broxbourne hit a total of 8 fours! Elliot and Harvey were the only two bowlers not to concede any wides!

Broxbourne ended the first innings with 297 for 4

Even though the Stortford boys had agreed the playing order for batting with Captain they kept the scorer on her toes by going on in a different format!

First to Bat was Noah and Austin, in the first four overs, Noah maintained steady singles and whilst Austin did hit a lovely four and gained two further runs he was caught out in their final over. Next to bat were Elliot and Luke, Elliot was unlucky and got bowled out twice, whilst Luke hit 3 fours, making him player of the MATCH with a total of 15!
The next pair on were Mason and Brendan, the other teams bowling was tight and didn't give these lads much room for maneuverer, but they didn't let that stop them and each delivered a 4 for the club! Broxbourne kept their bowling closed and the next pair on suffered for it, Harvey scored 3 runs and George 2 runs both getting caught in the last over.

Stortford finished on 246.

Broxbourne gave away 13 wides (2 in the last over) Stortford 15 wides,
Broxbourne attained 8 fours, Stortford 6 fours
So the match wasn't won on wides or necessarily the fours.
They made more single runs whilst we were hemmed in. They also caught more outs and bowled outs then we did.

In the field there was calling out to "walk in" after the ball but very few fielders actually did move their feet to walk in, giving the other side the chances for the sneak single runs which all mounted up in the end.

We need to watch those gaps in the field at every bowl, throw the ball straight and be READY to catch the ball.

Positives from this game - the team did well in calling out their intentions to run (some of these runs were very ambitious) they did not run each other out. They team gave encouragement to each other even when it became clear they were not going to win. Our boys were true cricketers today especially when it came to etiquette, they all shook hands as it was game well played. Special Thanks to Morgan for Umpiring for us!
