Having asked St Margaretsbury to bat first the boys bowled really well throughout restricting them to 248 for the loss of 4 wkts. Toby, Thomas and Luca picked up 1 wkt each while Archie and Adam bowlded tidely and Samuel pulled off an amazing run out with the ball crashing into his wicketkeeper's helmet and dropping onto the bails. Samuel's comment was ' what a header!!' - Many thanks for volunteering to be wicketkeeper.
Our batting started slowly as we struggled to attack the home side's bowling and then we lost wickets in the middle overs as we tried to accelerate which put us behind the required rate. Toby and Bertie tried to be more aggressive but the bowling was very tight leaving Luca and Matthew to score 40+ as the last pair. They hit some good boundaries and managed an excellent 26 runs in their 4 overs but this left us 18 runs short of their total.
A good learning experience for the first game of hardball cricket. Well done all.
