? Match Report – Welwyn CC vs BSCC U11
Upon arrival at Welwyn CC, we found ourselves in a difficult position with three players running very late. Waiting would have significantly reduced the game, so a big thank you to Jay from Welwyn for allowing us to bat first to help ensure we could still complete a full match—this was very much appreciated.
Although we took the field slightly late, both teams did brilliantly to keep things moving, and thanks to quick turnarounds between overs, we managed to complete the full 20/20 overs in good light.
BSCC Batting
We lost an early wicket in the first over, but recovered well through a strong partnership between Seb Jenkins (20) and Seb Hancock (27). Seb Hancock retired after a very good innings, although there was some confusion as we briefly thought it was Seb Jenkins who should retire—one of the challenges of having three Sebs in the team!
A middle-order wobble followed, but contributions from George Heath and Henry Swanson helped steady things, and we finished on a very competitive 154.
BSCC Bowling & Fielding
Nick Benson and Henry Shaw opened the bowling and set the tone with tight spells, showing excellent discipline with no wides or no-balls despite a few byes.
First change saw Seb Hancock and Seb Oakley continue the pressure, both bowling consistently and keeping the scoring under control. As always, we aim to give everyone an opportunity with the ball, and the boys did a great job collectively—taking wickets regularly and limiting runs well.
The game came down to the final over, with Welwyn needing 16–17 to win. Seb Oakley held his nerve superbly, delivering a composed and controlled over under pressure to secure the result.
Result
BSCC won by 7 runs
Final Thoughts
A fantastic effort from both sides in what was a very well-contested and enjoyable match. Welwyn put together an excellent chase and pushed us all the way to the final over.
Many thanks again to Welwyn for their flexibility and for hosting such a friendly and competitive fixture.
