The U11s opened the season with a B League game at home to Sawbridgeworth. We were put into bat and got off to a great start with James and Joseph putting on a partnership of 28 and James finding the boundary three times. In the middle of the innings we lost a few too many wickets (particularly run outs which we know we can work on). The final pair Rohan and Henry then added 22 to get us to 240/9.
We needed to take early wickets and did with James, Oliver and Joseph each picking up a wicket in their first overs. James then took two more in his second over and at halfway Sawbrigeworth were at only 201/6. Unfortunately their third pair was very strong and put on 29 runs. We did take a wicket from that pair thanks to a fantastic catch from Jakub and Max bowled a very tight second over. We took two more wickets to stay in the game but couldn't quite get into a position to have the final pair really under pressure despite a wicket from Henry.
The team fielded really well and I was very pleased with how they stuck at it on a cold evening. A few less run outs and the result could have been different but it gives us something easily fixable to work on as we get into the season.
