The U11A Team closed out a tight game against Sawbridgeworth to win their group.
As ever we batted first! After an early wicket Ryan (25 retired) and Rohan (24) gave a great platform for the team and got us to 64 for 1 off 14 overs. The next few players were then able to kick on led by Adi (19 no) supported by Henry (7) and (Sam T (9 no). Scoring quickly they made it to 111 for 5.
Sawbridgeworth made a good fist of chasing but we were able to take wickets throughout the innings. In particular there was some great catching! Sam T's one handed jump and grab at extra cover is the catch of the season (so far). Oliver also took a thin edge off Adi's bowling to remove their top scorer from our last game for a duck. Other wickets for Thomas, James and Henry left Sawbridgeworth needing 17 off three overs with three wickets remaining. Sam T bowled the 18th over and took a wicket off the last ball. Ridley, then took another at the start of the next over leaving Sawbridgeworth needing 12 off the last 9 balls with one wicket left. The next ball hit the stumps but was over waist height, a no ball, and ricocheted off to the boundary for 4 (6 runs in total). The boys stayed focussed though and the next ball was a thin edge through to Oliver and a top catch to win the game.
The team has done really well this season and winning their group with only one defeat is a big improvement on our hard ball league last year. They have shown an ability to build a score as a team and certainly how to take wickets and close out a game with the ball!
Now on to the Quarter Finals!
