The U11s played Hertford on a lovely sunny evening. Hertford let us bat first as a road accident had delayed half the team. We lost some early wickets and the pitch was not easy for playing shots. After six overs we were only 15 runs for 3 wickets albeit against the best bowlers we have played so far this year. We then had two good partnerships that moved the score on between Ryan (19) and Oliver (22) and then Oliver and Henry (14). (Shot of the day has to go to a lovely cover drive from Ryan for 4.) Jamie (5 n.o.) and Thomas (7 n.o.) finished the innings off well to get us to 79/7.
We needed to bowl tightly and take wickets and the team did that almost perfectly. There were no wides and only one no ball in the innings. The ground fielding was very strong. I lost count of the direct hits from fielders. After ten over we had taken three wickets (Joseph, Sam and Veer) but two thirds of the other balls had been dots and Hertford were 22 for 3 and now needing a run a ball. The bowling remained tight and wickets fell more frequently as Hertford tried to score faster. Two run outs and wickets for Ridley, Adi, Henry and Jamie ended the game in the last over with Hertford 48 all out.
Next week we play St Margaretsbury and winning that will (I think!) mean we qualify and top our group.
