Comprehensive win at Sawbridgeworth for U11As

The U11As put in a very strong all round performance to beat Sawbridgeworth and make it four wins out of four for the first half of the season.

We lost the toss and were put into bat. Veer and Henry did well against the opening bowlers soaking up some good bowling. Henry then fell for 8 and Veer was unluckily run out for 11 but they had done their job well and got the innings off to a steady start. Thomas, Adi and Rohan then added some real impetus to the innings. Thomas hit 2 sixes and 1 four before retiring. Rohan hit three boundaries and got the team running more positively. Adi hit 1 six and 4 fours and really upped the scoring rate. All three got through to retirement and then Sam, Oliver and Rupert finished the innings well running hard and forcing errors from the fielders. The total was 145 and a really good score, albeit on one of the better pitches we have played on.

The bowling was then very tight and although it took until the 8th over to take a wicket seven overs had only gone for 19 runs. A maiden from Rohan and just singles from Joseph and Henry's led the way. Wickets then began to arrive with Thomas, Veer and Oliver striking in their first overs. Rupert picked up one in his second over and Sam T then came back to take two in his second over which also saw a fantastic direct hit run out from Adi. Sawbridgeworth were 61/7 and they looked to play out the overs. In the final one Veer was a coat of varnish from finishing with a hat trick but took two in three balls. Sawbridgeworth finished on fifty runs short.

Our team did really well to keep the energy up in the field on a cold evening. That is four wins out of four setting a target. Although this seems to work for us I expect we will need to show that the team can win chasing in the second half of the season.

Well done U11s, see you after half term. The team seems to be learning how to play 11 a side cricket pretty quickly (and also teaching me some interesting things about Pepper Pig and the Punjabi Police along the way!).
