Team 3 (a mix of u11s and u10s) got off to a great winning start away at WGC in the summer league. Skipper Adi won the toss and chose to bat. A great opening stand of almost 40 in 7 overs followed between Joseph H (16) and Harry B (8). This despite some very good opposition bowling. Adi was next in and hit two glorious cover drives in his 12. However over 11 brought carnage to the Stortford scorecard. 3 wickets were lost for just one run and suddenly the good start seemed a distant memory! However Jack T (13*) and Harry N (12*) used a combination of big hits and quick running to keep some momentum, although the bowling was tight at times and we scored only 4 off the last 3 overs! So the 95 we scored was perhaps 15 shy of our potential. Our bowling and fielding response was really good throughout against a good batting team. Early wickets for Adi and Ridley gave us a good start but WGC had two very good batters who hit straight and hard. Despite this, the fielders were alert and we continued to take wickets at regular intervals with straight bowling, a superb running catch from Grace and three runouts. We also did some of the basics really well; no sloppy fielding, consistent backing up and positive support for the bowlers. More wickets came for Jack(2), Ed W, Harry B and Toby however going into the last over and despite being 9 wickets down, WGC only needed 3 runs! But this young side kept their cool and it was left to stand-in Keeper Olly A to gather and runout the last batter to complete a win by 2 runs with 4 balls left! Another great night for cricket.
